Please join us every 1st Thursdays of the month to enjoy readings from professional poets and lovers of poetry.
These events are held at different locations, so check out the Calendar of Events for upcoming readings.
We are a dynamic group of artists dedicated to creating original and inspiring works of art.
Our community is a vibrant mix of painters, sculptors, photographers, and more, who come together to share their passion for creativity and explore new artistic frontiers.
At Island Arts Council, we believe that art is a reflection of the human experience, and we are committed to creating works that inspire, challenge, and move our audience.

Island Arts Council’s Poetry Thursday

Brooke Lehmann , Charlotte NC, will be the featured poet at Island Arts Council’s Poetry Thursday, April 2nd.
Brooke’s debut poetry collection, Of Salt and Song, was published by Kelsay Books, 2025.
Her poems have been featured in Poet Lore, Tar River Poetry, Pedestal Magazine, and other literary journals. She won first place for the Charles Edward Eaton Prize (2024), and the Robert Golden and Mary Ruffin Poole Prizes (2025) from the NC Poetry Society, and she has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize.
She is currently enrolled in the MFA Creative Writing Program at Queens University and serves as Poet-in-Residence for Charlotte Center for Mindfulness.
Brooke’s reading will be followed by an open mic.
All are welcome to read or come to listen, enjoy, and support local poetry.
