Please join us every 1st Thursdays of the month to enjoy readings from professional poets and lovers of poetry.
These events are held at different locations, so check out the Calendar of Events for upcoming readings.
We are a dynamic group of artists dedicated to creating original and inspiring works of art.
Our community is a vibrant mix of painters, sculptors, photographers, and more, who come together to share their passion for creativity and explore new artistic frontiers.
At Island Arts Council, we believe that art is a reflection of the human experience, and we are committed to creating works that inspire, challenge, and move our audience.
This program is led by Kim Conway and Joanne Durham

Island Arts Council’s monthly poetry reading and open mic:
Thursday, August 6, 2026 6-8pm
Riverview Restaurant, 121 Riverview Road, off Fort Fisher Blvd. S., Kure Beach
Featured Poet: Martha Afeése, author of Footsteps to Freedom. Wayne Moore of the Wilmington Ten Foundation writes: “This collection of poems by poet and social activist Martha Afetse’ provides a vivid look into heart, mind, and soul of an extraordinary Black woman.
It will take you to a place where poetic genius transforms personal relationships and social issues into a mesmerizing art.”
You are welcome to sign up for the open mic when you arrive at the reading (3-5 minutes per poet). Food and beverages are available for purchase. Join us to listen, enjoy and engage in our growing poetry community.
