The Pleasure Island Mosaic Totems Project is a public sculpture initiative that will install multiple hand-crafted mosaic totems throughout Pleasure Island.
These sculptures will reflect the spirit, values, and identity of our community, including:
A supportive and connected community
The Pleasure Island Totems Project will consist of clusters of artist-made and community-made mosaic totems installed in highly visible public locations. Totems will vary in size and height, with designs reflecting the character and history of each site.
The Island Arts Council will collaborate with town managers and council members to secure and approve all installation locations.
Proposed Installation Sites
Kure Beach
Fort Fisher
Carolina Beach Fire Station
Kure Beach Fire Station
Carolina Beach Lake
Carolina Beach Marina
Each site will include:
Two (2) artist-made totems
One (1) community-made totem
Public Engagement & Accessibility
Our first Community Workshops will be held at the Kure Beach Community Center.( See the Announcement)
Participants will learn mosaic techniques while making panels to be included on the Community totem.
This is a wonderful opportunity to learn new art skills and contribute to an amazing public sculpture for people to enjoy!
