About the Project
The Pleasure Island Mosaic Totems Project is a public sculpture initiative that will install multiple hand-crafted mosaic totems throughout Pleasure Island.
These sculptures will reflect the spirit, values, and identity of our community, including:
- Ocean stewardship
- Environmental conservation
- Historical preservation
- Civic pride

A supportive and connected community
The Pleasure Island Totems Project will consist of clusters of artist-made and community-made mosaic totems installed in highly visible public locations. Totems will vary in size and height, with designs reflecting the character and history of each site.
The Island Arts Council will collaborate with town managers and council members to secure and approve all installation locations.

Each site will include:
Two (2) artist-made totems
One (1) community-made totem
Public Engagement & Accessibility
- Interactive digital and printed maps will guide residents and visitors to each totem location
- Digital maps will include artist information and descriptions of each totem’s meaning
- Printed maps will be available for display in local businesses

Our next Community Workshops will be held at the Carolina Beach Recreation Center.
Dates, Times and Registration will be Coming Soon!
Participants will learn mosaic techniques while making panels to be included on the Community totem.
This is a wonderful opportunity to learn new art skills and contribute to an amazing public sculpture for people to enjoy!
