Venus flytrap on parade

Rhonda Lee "Trap of Minnie Dreams"

About Rhonda

When pondering what to paint on a flytrap sculpture, it never occurred to me to just paint a scene onto the shape. I first transformed a snorkeler to fit the shape. I was later looking at Minnie Evans paintings and realized I could cover a statue with her art. Tattoo it all over.

Her art transcended the boundaries of conventional art, coming from dreams, spirituality, and nature. Likewise, the Venus Flytrap is not a conventional plant but is beautiful, complex, and otherworldly nature.

It represents both life and the certain end of life... not unlike Minnie’s work.

By creating a tribute to her work, I was able to study deeply her strokes, her repetitiveness, her style and growth. It is the most time-consuming art I have ever done but left me with an appreciation of taking my time and diving deeper.

My art will now be influenced by her art.
